In the heart of the northern jungle region of San Martín, Peru, is the story of faith, service to others, and love of Christ of Mary Tarrillo Silva, a 15-year-old girl who has captivated her community with her missionary commitment.

Silva faces the daily challenges of limited access to transportation and long distances to attend secondary school. However, her passion for service has made her a beacon of hope for those around her.

As a member of the Adventist Church, Silva has embraced her role as a missionary, traveling weekly to reach the community of "New Palestine." There she offers Bible studies to 15 families who have not yet been reached by the gospel. Silva also encourages those who listen to her to deepen their study of the Bible.

As a result, two residents of the village where she offers Bible studies have already given their lives to God through baptism, and others continue to prepare and learn about the message of the gospel.

"Mary is a missionary example," says Josafat Castillo, pastor of the town where the church the teenager attends is located. "Her bravery in facing obstacles and her steadfast devotion to sharing the message of hope in Jesus are testaments to her character," he adds.

Despite the difficulties she faces, Silva has shown unwavering determination in her mission. Even in her participation in the Pathfinder Club, despite the long distances she must travel to join every meeting, she is always present in the activities.

"Mary's story reminds us that true service knows no geographical limits or material obstacles," says Castillo. “It is an honor to have such an inspiring young woman in our congregation,” he adds.
